Link House, Cambois

LINK HOUSE, CAMBOIS, NORTHUMBERLAND was one of the great houses in NORTHUMBERLAND in a place CAMBOIS, it was located there the coast.

This house is connected with my grandmother was born near there and there is some confusion as to where one of her name comes from, she was christen Gertrude Ann Dunford Byers COLE just before she was adopted by the BYERS family. But it’s the name DUNFORD that appear to complex, as nowhere in the family history do we have a name DUNFORD. It appears that my Great Grandmother Elizabeth WAUGH was working in LINK HOUSE as a servant, it also appears that the fathers name who would have been William Cutter COLE was not added to the birth certificate for some reason. Any information about LINK HOUSE or the name DUNFORD would be greatly appreciated.

James BYERS b. 8th February 1878 WALLSEND, NORTHUMBERLAND, d. abt March 1916 TYNEMOUTH married Barbara JONES b.1878 THORNLEY COLLIERY, DURHAM on the 2nd May 1900 at the Parish Church, TYNEMOUTH, NORTHUMBERLAND daughter of John JONES and Ann (Unknown) where she lived at 39 Waggon Way Row, HEWORTH, DURHAM in 1881 Census, they had two children, James BYERS b.1913, Annie Jones BYERS b. 29th March 1908 SHIRMOOR, TYNEMOUTH, NORTHUMBERLAND d. 1982 Present Hospital, TYNESIDE. She married James Cecil SPEED b.December 1907 married abt March 1931 TYNEMOUTH and had two daughters, Barbara Ann SPEED b.2nd October 1932 HOWDON, TYNE & WEAR, who married Maurice Fredrick Howsden TAYLOR b.20th October 1927 BECKINGHAM, KENT in 7th July 1951 St Pauls Church, WILLINGTON QUAY Lillian SPEED b. March 1934 TYNEMOUTH and married Thomas MCGUINESS abt September 1951 NEWCASTLE ON TYNE, he died abt March 2004 in WALLSEND

Cecil SPEED died in 1936 in TYNEMOUTH. Annie Jones SPEED then remarried abt. June 1937 to Alfred Howe WILSON b. bef June 1898 CULLERCOATS, d. abt September 1965 HIGH HOWDON, NORTHUMBERLAND. They had two children Muriel WILSON b 1937 NORTHUMBERLAND SOUTH, Lisle Alfred WILSON b.29th March 1948 WILLINGTON QUAY

Gibson Family

The GIBSON family from DURHAM and NORTHUMBERLAND circa 1813; my 2 x Gt Granddad Mansfield GIBSON married Elizabeth GOFTON on the 14th March 1813 in CHESTER LE STREET, DURHAM. They had one child Edward GIBSON b. 29th June 1815, d. c.1876. He married Elizabeth CHESTERTON b. 25th February 1819 daughter of William CHESTERTON on the 28th June 1841 in The Parish Church, NEWCASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND. In 1858 they resided in EVERARD STREET, HARTLEPOOL where they had a son called James GIBSON b. 23rd January 1858, on the 4th March 1876 at the Registry Office, STOCKTON, DURHAM. James GIBSON married Jane Ann NELSON b.21st February 1859 d. London (Date Unknown), daughter of John NELSON and Elizabeth RENFORTH. They had eight children one of which was John GIBSON b.1877 STOCKTON (Married Mary (Unknown). They had one child called Hilda b.bef.1927). The other children of John GIBSON and Mary (UNKNOWN) other children were James b.1883 STOCKTON, William b.1886 STOCKTON, Jane Ann b.1891 DARLINGTON, Thomas b.1894 NEWBURN, Beatrice M b.1898 NEWBURN (Married Thomas C Thompson bef. June 1919 CASTLE WARD and had a daughter Beatrice M THOMPSON b.bef December 1923), Hilda b.1899 NEWBURN, George GIBSON b.1901 STOCKTON (Married a Gertrude Ann Dunford Cole Byers (Byers being adopted name). b.1903 CAMBOIS, NORTHUMBERLAND. They had two children James Byers GIBSON b.1927 d.2005 and Georgina Mary GIBSON (SKINNER) b.1935

Waugh Family

I am researching the WAUGH family from NORTHUMBERLAND in and around the 1840’s to 1880’s My Gt Gt Gt Granddad George Waugh married Mary CAMPBELL, from them they had one sibling that I know of my 2 x Gt Granddad Joshua WAUGH b.1844 (possible Joseph or Josiah) he married a Margaret WAUGH nee ALLAN (ALLEN). b.1852. They had several Children Margaret Ann b.1871, Elizabeth b.1874 d.1883, Isabella b.1878, Ada who married a Tom BARRASS b.1873, Robert Allen WAUGH who married a Ellen Dixon THOMPSON b.1885, who had a son called Baden Powell THOMSON, a Florence WAUGH b.1885, Laura WAUGH b.1887 and finally my Gt Grandmother Elizabeth WAUGH b.25th August 1883 who married William Cutter COLE b.17th April 1877 married in St Albans Church, EARSDEN, NORTHUMBERLAND in 23rd March 1901, they only had one child that is known,

Gertrude Ann Dunford COLE, this was before she was adopted on the 15th February 1903 and became Gertrude Ann Dunford Cole BYERS. The mystery is the name DUNFORD and where it comes from, Elizabeth was working as a servant in one of the great houses called LINK HOUSE, CAMBOIS and even though she was married to William Cutter COLE, his name is not show as the father on the birth certificate.
