I am researching the WAUGH family from NORTHUMBERLAND in and around the 1840’s to 1880’s My Gt Gt Gt Granddad George Waugh married Mary CAMPBELL, from them they had one sibling that I know of my 2 x Gt Granddad Joshua WAUGH b.1844 (possible Joseph or Josiah) he married a Margaret WAUGH nee ALLAN (ALLEN). b.1852. They had several Children Margaret Ann b.1871, Elizabeth b.1874 d.1883, Isabella b.1878, Ada who married a Tom BARRASS b.1873, Robert Allen WAUGH who married a Ellen Dixon THOMPSON b.1885, who had a son called Baden Powell THOMSON, a Florence WAUGH b.1885, Laura WAUGH b.1887 and finally my Gt Grandmother Elizabeth WAUGH b.25th August 1883 who married William Cutter COLE b.17th April 1877 married in St Albans Church, EARSDEN, NORTHUMBERLAND in 23rd March 1901, they only had one child that is known,
Gertrude Ann Dunford COLE, this was before she was adopted on the 15th February 1903 and became Gertrude Ann Dunford Cole BYERS. The mystery is the name DUNFORD and where it comes from, Elizabeth was working as a servant in one of the great houses called LINK HOUSE, CAMBOIS and even though she was married to William Cutter COLE, his name is not show as the father on the birth certificate.
